Trends

We constantly are being bombarded with the latest trends, in magazines, on TV, even in our own circle of friends. We’re told what’s hot and what’s not, what’s in and what’s out. Some of us are working to keep up. From donning the latest hair cut to wearing the most popular shoes, we want to look like we manage to have it all: families, careers, and a social life while still being stylish and hip.

Working in the beauty industry, it is our business to keep up with trends and introduce them to our clients. We’re looking for the latest in cut and color styles, to see how we can translate them to work for you. Following trends can give you a great idea on some new looks to try out but it’s important that styles are customized to work best for you! In order to look and feel your best, you need to work with what you already have. It’s not about thinking you have to look like a celebrity; it’s realistic. Few people have a full hair and makeup team at their disposal, so why create a look that requires that?
Through this blog we would like to showcase some trends and styles we are loving! But keep in mind, we’re here to help and give you tips on how to customize those styles to work for you.

Why Can't Middle-Aged Women Have Long Hair?

The New York Times published an article that might resonate with many of you.

Should middle-aged women have long hair?

We seem to have a belief in our society that when women get to a certain age, they must cut off their hair. The women we deem respectable and powerful sport short dos; from Hilary Clinton to Katie Couric.  In fact, on Forbes latest list of the 100 most powerful women in the world, close to two-third of them have short hair. But why? Are women with long hair less intelligent or incapable?

This article provides the refreshing insight of a 55-years old woman loving her long hair! Even though she faces criticism from everyone around her, from her mother to her agent, she considers her long hair a form of liberation. She cites many long-haired female role models of her youth from Jonie Mitchell to Cher. She boasts the accepted theory that men love long hair; while still admitting the longer haired sexpot-look does require maintenance. She loves her long hair for its "femininity" and "goddess-like" length.

We want to know what you think? Does age dictate hair length? At a certain point, must all middle-aged women succumb to our culture norm of short hair?
